Understanding Attitudes in the West

These surveys are part of a joint polling project among researchers at Arizona State University, Stanford University and the University of Houston. The series kicked off in the summer of 2023 with the release of a survey examining changing attitudes on abortion in Arizona, California and Texas. The second report covered public opinion on transgender legislation and policies, the third explored political affiliation in the three states, and the fourth looked at economic migration out of California. 

The reports come from an original survey of residents in California, Arizona and Texas conducted jointly by researchers at Stanford University, Arizona State University, and the University of Houston. The survey was conducted between May 31 and June 6, 2023 among a representative sample of Arizona, California and Texas residents age 18 and older. In all, 3,163 respondents were surveyed across the three states: Arizona (1,051), California (1,045), and Texas (1,067), with the margin of error for each state +/- 3.0%.
